Remote Learning
Remote learning in our school
Remote Learning at Hormead
At Hormead, we are committed to ensuring that all children continue to learn, grow, and flourish, even when they are learning from home. We understand there may be times when a pupil cannot attend school in person, such as during self-isolation or temporary school closures. In such cases, remote learning will be provided to support their continued education. Please note that remote learning is only available to children who are well enough to learn but are unable to attend school physically. It is not intended for pupils who are unwell.
We are incredibly proud of how our school community responded during recent national lockdowns, with children staying engaged and progressing in their learning through a balanced approach of online lessons and guided tasks.
From Nursery to Year 4, all remote learning is delivered through the Class Dojo app, which allows staff to maintain daily contact with families in a secure, professional, and confidential manner. Parents are provided with their Class Dojo login details when they join the school.
Our Remote Learning Offer
Hormead’s remote learning approach ensures that pupils continue to receive high-quality education in line with our in-school curriculum. Through Class Dojo, children can:
- Access daily lessons and curriculum-linked resources
- Upload completed work for teacher feedback
- Watch recorded or live teaching sessions (where appropriate)
- Stay connected with their teacher and classmates
Each week, we share a timetable and clear expectations to help families structure learning at home effectively.
What You Can Expect
When a child is learning from home, we provide:
- A broad and balanced curriculum that mirrors classroom learning as closely as possible
- Daily English and maths lessons, plus phonics or reading sessions for younger pupils
- A range of foundation subject tasks, including science, history, geography, RE, PE, and art
- Regular and constructive feedback to support progress and engagement
- Opportunities for prayer, reflection, and connection with our Christian vision:
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10)
Support for Pupils and Families
We understand that every family’s circumstances are different. That’s why we design our remote learning to be:
- Accessible – Tasks are adapted to suit a range of needs and age groups
- Flexible – We understand that families may have limited devices or unique routines
- Supportive – Staff are available throughout the school day via Class Dojo to answer questions and offer encouragement
If you require printed learning packs, additional help, or would like to borrow a school device, please contact the school office. We are here to support you.
