"Love of Learning, Love of Life, Love of God"
Thank you for considering Hormead Hedgehogs for your childcare needs. We hope that you will find all you need to know on the tabs below and across our website.
In Early Years, we believe that every day is a fun learning day and that learning is all around us. In our Preschool, we have a qualified teacher who works alongside the Reception teacher to ensure that every child has the best possible start in life to fulfil their potential and to ensure that there is continuity and progression. We also pride ourselves on having level 3 trained Early Years Practitioners with a good adult to child ratio. Every adult in Early Years is a key worker and will be responsible for your child's wellbeing and development. We are a friendly and nurturing team that provides a cosy, home from home environment that allows children's early education to flourish.
As part of our Early Years provision, your child will have the opportunity to take part in whole school activities such as: Celebration assemblies, walks around our village and whole school trips. The Preschool children also have their own dedicated Forest School time with our trained Forest School teacher on a Wednesday morning.

Our learning
Our academic year is split into half termly topics. These are then broken down into themed weeks, all of which link to our main topic. Here are our topics for this academic year:
Autumn 1 | Autumn 2 | Spring 1 | Spring 2 | Summer 1 | Summer 2 |
Exploring Autumn | Sparkle and shine | Winter wonderland | Puddles and Rainbows | Shadows and reflections | Splash |
Children's interests
In addition to our half termly topics, we plan activities for our key children based on their interests to keep learning engaging and relevant to all children.
Phonics in Nursery
The older children in the setting have a daily phonics session - this is to make sure that the children are 'school ready' for next September and have had the practise of listening to sounds in the environment and are beginning to hear initial and repeating sounds in words. The children look forward to their phonics session every day as each session is a game or fun activity that requires children to make noise!
