Equipped with knowledge, Christian values and independence, we make our learning journey together, to flourish and reach our full potential, as successful, responsible and compassionate individuals, to live life in all its fullness."

"Love of Learning, Love of Life itself, and Love of God"

Vision for our Nursery children

We believe that every day is a fun learning day and that learning is all around us. Our Nursery and Preschool staff work alongside our EYFS teachers to ensure that every child has the best possible start in life to fulfil their potential and there is continuity of progression.

Our relationship with parents and carers is very important to us. We know that you are the most important people in a child’s life. We will always listen to any concerns raised and deal with them promptly. We will:

  1. Engage children in the highest quality teaching and learning to maximise success for all.
  2. Provide a supportive, caring and secure environment in which everyone is valued.
  3. Create a nursery that feels like home and provides a centre for the families in our community to learn, grow and play.
  4. Offer exceptional specialist provision for children and families with additional needs.
  5. Encourage children to have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and respect for both themselves and other people.
  6. Equip our children with skills for learning, and life to prepare them for the next stage in their learning adventure.

We understand how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others. In an effort to provide the best things in life, parents are constantly faced with the ordeal of choosing appropriate childcare. That is why at Hedgehogs, we aim to offer our community an exciting, safe environment where we can care for your child. We are a team of dedicated professionals who have a strong focus on nurturing every child in our care, so they can develop in a happy and secure setting.

We have two settings for Hormead Hedgehogs admissions. Our Preschool situated in the grounds of Hormead of School and the School Nursery.

The Pre-school and School Nursery are run as one school, under the leadership of the Headteacher, Mrs L Cowler and the school board of Governors.

Many parents choose to continue their child’s journey into our school for Reception class, but we understand that this is not always the plan for your child. Whatever your decision may be for your child, we are delighted that you have considered us for the start of your child’s educational journey.

Hedgehogs Preschool and Hedgehogs Nursery - What’s the difference?

Hedgehogs Preschool

Our Pre-school has its own setting and play area situated within Hormead First school grounds. Pre-school is offered to children from the ages of 2 to 4 years. Whilst the maximum age is 4 in our Pre-school, parents do have the option to move their child to our school nursery, from the term after their third birthday, providing we have availability.

Our Preschool offers two sessions:

Mornings (9am -12pm) and afternoons (1pm-3pm).

Lunch sessions are also available, where a meal can be provided by the schools canteen, at an extra cost or you may provide a packed lunch for your child.

We offer wrap around care at an additional charge:

  • Early bird club from 8:30am to 9:00am
  • After school care until 3:00pm to 4:15pm
  • Lunchtime from 12pm to 1pm

The Pre-school has close links with the First school and the children are invited to join many of the school activities such as walks up to the church for celebration festivals, sports day activities etc.

Hedgehogs Nursery

The School Nursery is offered to children the term after their third birthday. Our Nursery is set within our school as part of our Reception class, run by a qualified Early Years teacher and led by a Nursery Practitioner. Nursery children are exposed to the rich and varied curriculum within the school setting.

The Early Years Team focus on the all-round development of your child, with particular emphasis on their personal and social development so that, when they begin Reception, they are school ready and are familiar to the whole school community.

As part of the Nursery class, your child will take part in whole school activities, such as, church services and Collective Worship in the school hall. The class regularly take part in PE with our sports coach and use the school grounds for Forest School activities. We recommend that children attend our school Nursery at least 5 mornings a week, either:

Mornings (8:45 - 12:00pm) or all day (8:45am - 3:00pm) which includes lunch club.

Early bird club and after school care is available at an additional charge.
