Inaugural Hormead Science Competition

23rd May 2016
We were delighted to host the inaugural Hormead Interschool Science Competition today. We welcomed teams from 7 local schools to take on 3 challenges to win prizes. Each challenge was based on an aspect of science and linked through the theme of Space.
Three judges assessed the teams on their ability to work together as a team and complete the tasks successfully (all the teams did!). Points were awarded and the highest scorers for each challenge were presented with a trophy in the Grand Prize Giving ceremony at the end of the day.

Between the tasks, children witnessed impressive demonstrations given by Simon Hughes and Phil Prizad from St Alban's School. There were explosions and chemical reactions galore!
We are very grateful to our sponsors for support of the event:

Without their support (financial and physical!) we would not have been able to host the event.
Task 1: Make a lava lamp
Task 2: Test food for starch content
Task 3: Make anair powered rocket
